How to Use Your HSA/FSA Funds at Huel
The IRS allows you to use your pre-tax funds for purchases from Huel with a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN), which Truemed helps you obtain.
1. Complete your purchase
Use your regular payment method to purchase your favorite Huel products. Both subscriptions and one-off purchases are eligible for reimbursement.
2. Look for the Health Evaluation Form in your Huel order confirmation email
After completing your purchase, you’ll receive a confirmation email from Huel with a link to the Health Evaluation Form provided by TrueMed. Fill out and submit the form to be reviewed by a licensed provider. If eligible, they will issue a Letter of Medical Necessity, enabling you to use your HSA/FSA for reimbursement.
3. Watch for updates from TrueMed about your eligibility and Letter of Medical Necessity
Truemed will follow up with instructions on submitting your reimbursement using the email you provided on the form.
Need your invoice? Log into your Huel account, go to Order History, select your order, and click Download Invoice (available 24 hours after your order is fulfilled).
FAQs
What are FSA and HSA accounts?
Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) let you set aside pre-tax dollars to cover eligible healthcare expenses. Not sure if you have an HSA or FSA? Check with your employer or insurance provider to find out.
Can I use my HSA/FSA funds for Huel orders?
Yes, both one-off purchases and subscription orders qualify for reimbursement with a Letter of Medical Necessity. However, HSA/FSA cards cannot be used directly at checkout.
Why do only certain purchases qualify for reimbursement?
Reimbursement through TrueMed is available for both one-off and subscription purchases because these products align with IRS guidelines for HSA/FSA use when supported by a Letter of Medical Necessity.
When should I use my FSA/HSA dollars?
You can use your HSA/FSA funds year-round, but keep in mind that FSA dollars expire at the end of the year. Any unused funds may not roll over into the next year. Be sure to spend the rest of your FSA dollars before December 31st—use it, so you don’t lose it!
How does using my HSA/FSA account save me money?
HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) were created to help individuals use pre-tax money to cover expenses related to treating, mitigating, or preventing a diagnosed medical condition. By using pre-tax funds, you maximize your purchasing power—avoiding income taxes and putting more money toward your health.
For 2024, individuals can contribute:
- HSA: Up to $4,150 pre-tax per year (or $8,300 for a family). If you’re 55 or older, you can contribute an extra $1,000 annually.
- FSA: Up to $3,200 pre-tax per year, with an additional $500 allowed in employer contributions.
These accounts are a great way to invest in your well-being while saving money!
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity, and how is this compliant?
The items in your TrueMed Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) are now recognized as qualified medical expenses—just like a visit to the doctor or a prescription.
Extensive research shows that food and exercise are some of the most effective ways to prevent and reverse disease. With an LMN, exercise qualifies as a medical expense, and items like food, supplements, and other wellness purchases are eligible if they’re used to treat or prevent an illness, provided a doctor verifies the need.
Your TrueMed LMN meets all IRS requirements, making your wellness expenses fully reimbursable.
How long does it take for me to receive my Letter of Medical Necessity?
Typically, it takes 24-48 hours for TrueMed’s provider team to issue a Letter of Medical Necessity. In some cases, additional time may be needed depending on the details of your individual qualification survey.
If you haven’t received your letter, please check your spam folder. If it’s not there, feel free to reach out to support@truemed.com for assistance.
